About Midwife Sasha

Sasha Bariffe is a homebirth midwife in Wisconsin

Path to Birth Work…

With over two decades of experience in the healthcare field, Sasha began her journey as a certified nursing assistant and education as a practical nurse before discovering their calling in birth work. Their interest in birth was ignited after witnessing a birth in the emergency room, and after supporting their sister through labor and delivery. Sasha pursued education to become a birth doula, midwife and lactation consultant.

Sasha is a dedicated healthcare professional who holds the International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) credential, representing the pinnacle of expertise in lactation care. She has also undergone extensive training to achieve certifications as a Certified Professional Midwife and Certified Community Midwife, with licensure in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. Sasha's unwavering commitment to individualized care stems from her core belief that every person, regardless of their background or socioeconomic status, deserves to feel valued and heard, especially when it comes to their healthcare needs.

Driven by her mission to deliver compassionate, affirming, and personalized support to individuals and families throughout their childbearing journey, Sasha goes beyond clinical practice. She actively advocates for legislative reforms to enhance access to reproductive healthcare, contributing her voice to organizations such as the Wisconsin Guild of Midwives, Minnesota Council of Certified Professional Midwives, and the National Association of Certified Professional Midwives. Within these groups, Sasha plays a role in advancing initiatives that promote equitable access to midwifery services and education.

Sasha is a passionate educator and advocate for Black and Indigenous student midwives. Her commitment to creating a more person-centered and equitable healthcare system is reflected in her work as a teacher, where she emphasizes the importance of cultural competence and advocacy in the practice of midwifery. In her leisure time, Sasha nurtures her indoor and outdoor gardens, indulges in digital artistry, micro-learning, learning to play the piano, and cherishes moments with her two dimple-cheeked children, loving partner, and their jumbo-sized canine companion.

 Why...

Sasha's "why" has always been to ensure everyone, regardless of gender, race, socioeconomic status, or body size, has access to affirming care. She recognizes that racism and unchecked biases contribute to the worst birth outcomes in the nation for these groups, and her work is committed to changing this through her work with clients, working with student midwives of color, advocating for legislative change, and a commitment to being a lifelong learner.
